IT-DRESS: WHY LOUIS VUITTON CHECKERED DRESSES ARE SPRING’S MOST POPULAR PIECE

Every season, one particular item or collection manages to completely captivate the fashion world, thus making appearance in shoot after shoot and, of course, on the red carpet. For the Spring 2013 season, the most obsessed-over and photographed items are undoubtedly the checkerboard patterned dresses designed by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. The dresses were an instant hit when they debuted early last October during Paris Fashion Week, and have since followed the same path that other It-dresses have followed, like the sheer polka-dot dress from Stella McCartney’s Fall 2011 collection, which Kate Winslet first wore at the “Mildred Pierce” premiere in March 2011. Since then, the Stella McCartney dress has been featured in numerous editorials, and has also been worn by a diverse group of stars including Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon, Jane Fonda, and Kim Kardashian. The Louis Vuitton checkered pieces first made their first red carpet appearance just weeks after they hit the runway when Kristen Stewart opted to wear a romper from the collection at the Tokyo premiere of “Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2.” Since then, the checkered dresses have popped up on everyone from Jessica Alba to Kerry Washington—who wore the head-to-toe look from the runway, including the matching headband. Just today, Kendall Jenner was spotted wearing the same Louis Vuitton checkered romper Kristen Stewart wore back in the fall, this time in the pages of Cosmopolitan.
